Large Format Matte Porcelain | Off-White to Light Grey | Imperfection as Design
Wabi-Sabi Shiro Rock is the answer to the anonymous white tile. Rather than presenting whiteness as blankness — as the absence of decision — plonc. has authored a white tile that carries depth, texture, and the quiet gravity of time. Drawing from the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which embraces impermanence, incompleteness, and the beauty of the unrefined, Shiro Rock inscribes imperfection into form.
Its surface is articulated through subtle relief: fractured lines, gentle undulations, and shallow depressions that recall the softened contours of river-worn rock. Light does not pass across this surface evenly — it gathers, breaks, and settles, allowing shadow to become part of the tile's expression. The result is a white tile that remains present in a space, rather than retreating into the background.
In off-white to light grey tones with natural tonal variation, Wabi-Sabi Shiro Rock suits the full range of applications where a white tile might be considered — bathrooms, kitchens, living areas — but brings a considered material quality that standard white tiles cannot offer. It pairs naturally with warm timbers, aged brass, and matte black hardware.
