At slab scale, tile stops being a surface treatment and becomes architecture. A feature wall running floor to ceiling with no interruption. Book-matched veining opening across a shower like a mirrored page. A waterfall island where the pattern continues over the edge and down.
This is the most dramatic material we sell, and the most demanding. A slab has nowhere to hide — no grout lines to break up a mistake, no small tiles to absorb a variation. When it's done properly, it looks like the room was carved rather than clad. When it isn't, everyone can see.
Slabs need specialist handling, cutting and installation. They require the right equipment, more than one person, and an installer who has genuinely worked at this scale before — not one who has laid a lot of large format and is willing to 'give it a go'. Plenty of tilers won't take slab work on at all, which is fair enough, and it's the single most common reason a slab project stalls after the material has already been ordered.
That's the part we can help with before it becomes a problem. TileZu is part of the same family business as Elite Tile Works, a Wollongong-based tiling and waterproofing team who have been installing large format and slabs across the Illawarra, Sydney and the South Coast for over fifteen years. So we can tell you honestly whether your substrate, your installer and your budget line up — and if you'd rather have it supplied and installed by one team, we can do that too.
So, our Megaslim range is the place to start. If you want the seamless look at a more conventional scale and cost, Large Format covers the same instinct with fewer constraints.
Slabs are the one product where we'd rather talk before you order. Send through your plans and we'll give you a straight answer!
